I've always considered the investment banking industry as an intriguing career path. My father worked in the industry and my memories of "take your daughter to work day" were the foundation for my interest in finance.

My career path is a little unusual to many of my American colleagues at Nomura. While I was in college, I interned at both Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers. I joined Lehman Brothers in 2003 where I worked in different groups, including the treasury department- where I currently sit today.

At Lehman brothers, I was given the opportunity to move abroad for an assignment within the treasury department. During this time, Lehman filed for bankruptcy and I was hired by Nomura in the UK. In June 2009, Nomura's US expansion initiative began and I was sent back to New York to help build out the bank in the treasury department.

I've had the opportunity to see three completely different perspectives on global investment banks and I can honestly say that Nomura in the US is unlike any other. I have the opportunity to work closely with upper-level management, who are very supportive and helpful.

As an Associate in the Treasury department, I focus on liquidity management, analytics and asset/liability management. My group is responsible for monitoring the firm's unsecured cash flow and if needed, to provide funds to various business lines to conduct business throughout the day. My position allows me to experience many of the businesses that fall under the Nomura's umbrella and learn about all of our products that are traded.

The most exciting part of working here is being part of the recruiting process. I get to travel to our targeted campuses, meet candidates and interview. To be successful here, you need to be ambitious, confident and patient. I say patient because we are a growing firm, trying to figure out how to be in the best place possible - and this takes time.

Nomura is in a different league than other banks. While Nomura has been established in NY for many years, this is a real opportunity to re-build from scratch. We are cherry picking the right people, best systems, and platforms to mold the bank to the best it can be.
