Which divisions are hiring graduates in 2010?
We're looking for graduates in our investment banking, global markets and corporate infrastructure divisions .

Does Nomura offer internship programmes?
Yes, we run summer internship programmes in our Asia offices in our global markets, investment banking and occasionally in our corporate infrastructure divisions.  We offer these 10-week internships to students who are thinking about a career in banking and who wish to find out more.

What academic background must I have?
We encourage applications from all disciplines and look for candidates who have earned a minimum 2.1 (or equivalent) in their degree programme. It is essential that you have an interest in finance, a desire to work in investment banking and are numerate. If you have the basics, we will train you in the rest.

Which characteristics do you look for in candidates?
We look for people who are intelligent, entrepreneurial, determined, creative, team-spirited and passionate about succeeding.  More importantly, people who want to keep learning throughout their career.

May I apply to more than one division?
We encourage candidates to do as much research as possible beforehand to understand which might be the best business area for you – matching your skill set and interest.   In doing so, candidates will be equipped to discuss their choices, demonstrating enthusiasm and knowledge of the roles.

What happens during the interview process?
 If selected, the first round interview will comprise of either a phone or face to face interview, depending on where you are located.  It may or may not have a case study component.

Here are a few tips to help you prepare:

  • Please be yourself; do not try and guess what skills we're looking for. 
  • Review the Nomura website to understand key facts about our company
  • Research latest news articles, particularly any related to the division to which you have applied
  • Know your CV and be prepared to answer questions about your field of study, extra-curricular activities and reasons for joining the investment banking industry and Nomura specifically
  • Remember, it is a two-way process and a great opportunity to learn about our culture and our business

What should I wear to my interview?
Our dress code is business attire so a suit is appropriate.

What are the application deadlines?  

Full Time:  Sunday 29 November 2009
Internships:   Early deadline Sunday 13 December 2009 / Final deadline Sunday 10 January 2010

Would Nomura sponsor work authorisation?

Yes, Nomura will sponsor those students we offer, but the regional immigration authorities will ultimately make the decision as to whether this will be granted.
