Corporate Social Responsibility

Nomura is actively involved with local communities in Asia through the support of various educational, cultural, artistic and social welfare activities.

Every year, we support the Community Chest, a public entity in Hong Kong established to assist social welfare facilities; The Australia Ballet in Australia; and activities that promote friendship between Asian countries and Japan throughout the region.

Educational Seminar on the Securities MarketWe also place a lot of effort in educating young people on the financial and securities market by holding a series of educational seminars in various universities. For example in 2006, we held seminars in The University of Hong Kong and The Chinese University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong. In China, we have held seminars in Sun Yat-sen University, Xiamen University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Peking University.

In 2004, our Asian offices jointly collected and donated over 1 million HK dollars as part of the Tsunami relief effort. It was the first joint CSR activity by Nomura’s Asian offices, including Australia, Bangkok, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Philippine, Singapore and Taiwan.

In 2006, we participated in the "Run-up Two ifc Charity Race 2006", organized by the Hong Kong Community Chest. All funds raised at the event were used to help people with disabilities by assisting them in developing their physical, mental and social capabilities to the fullest possible extent and to help them integrate into the community.

Most recently, we made a donation to the Asian Prevention of Blindness Association, a NPO that supports a Japanese eye doctor who voluntarily helps cataract patients in Asia, especially Vietnam, to regain their eyesight and provides training for local doctors.
