TARGETchances investment banking for women event

In June 2008, Nomura co-hosted the TARGETchances investment banking for women event whereby seventy female university students from the UK, Europe and Ireland were given an insight into the exciting career opportunities available within the investment banking industry.

The event kicked off with an inspiring message from Amanda Brilliant, director of fixed income sales at Nomura in London who suggested ‘we have reason to be upbeat…women in the City are progressing, the city is more inclusive, and there is much more support than there was 20 years ago’. She also commented that ‘it’s gratifying to see so many young and talented women who are interested in working in banking. I encourage each one of you to use the next few days to extract as much information as possible to help you decide if the world of banking is right for you’.

Over two days the students then met with a selection of Nomura representatives and participated in a number of activities including case studies and a trading game simulation as well as being provided with insightful information to help them throughout the application and selection process.  As one participant from the University of Bristol suggested ‘the whole experience was highly enlightening and I was able to gain an insight into the different roles with in an investment bank… this has cemented my decision to apply for internships with an investment bank’.

The programme concluded with a panel discussion with Nomura representatives Matthew Peakman and Funda Ayhan.  They spoke candidly about their experience of working in the fast past environment that is investment banking.
