What is it? Working in Finance & Controllers you’ll join our rotation scheme that exposes you to different areas of the business. This gives you a really good understanding of how the Finance division works and enables you to meet some of the 85 others who work in this area of the business. Finance is made up of the following: Product Control – key responsibilities include the preparation and analysis of trading profit and loss and Nomura’s balance sheet generated by our worldwide trading activities. Working in Product Control requires a thorough understanding of the bank’s trading strategies, and the components of each product to ensure correct valuations. You’ll be closely involved with the trading desks on a daily basis and work alongside other areas of Nomura including Risk Management, Compliance and Operations. Risks & Controls – responsibilities include finding better ways to manage the day-to-day needs of the business through better processes and controls that fit with our overall strategic objectives. Another key responsibility is to encourage a ‘control culture’ across the whole business (primarily through Sarbanes-Oxley, the rules and regulations governing corporate reporting). MIS – responsible for providing an accurate overview of Nomura Europe's performance: revenues, expenses, regulatory capital and headcount. Management information is presented on a systematic basis for Nomura Europe's Executive Committee and provides an insight into the firm's strategic direction. Corporate Reporting – key responsibility is to prepare, reconcile and analyse the European operations profit-and-losses and balance sheets for internal and external reporting in accordance with local Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Capital Production Control – responsible for monitoring on a daily basis the capital adequacy of regulated Nomura entities as required by the FSA. The FSA requires credit institutions, such as Nomura, to have enough capital resources set aside to meet the implied regulatory risk Nomura is committed to. Finance Business Reporting and Control – acts as the main contact point for senior management from the trading and investment businesses, and works closely with Product Control. A key focus of the group is to ensure that corporate governance standards are maintained through the review and control of the profit and loss reports and balance sheet. They are also responsible for providing firm-wide management reporting, as well as business analysis for the Front Office and the European Executive Committee. What we’re looking for

Through both classroom and on-the-job training you’ll quickly learn about the firm's products and systems, while acquiring key skills and a better knowledge of the company's operations. All graduates are expected to complete at least one rotation during their two-year training period. It enables you to form a greater understanding of the finance function and help in both personal development and future career direction. To help speed up your development you’ll be assigned a buddy and a mentor. Your buddy will be either a qualified accountant or someone with several years’ experience in the industry – they’ll be available to provide general advice on working life, studying and career planning. Your mentor will be a member of the senior management team who will meet with you to discuss, on a confidential basis, career progression, training, and any work related issues.
