Global Markets

  • We employ over 350 people across our Fixed Income and Equities division delivering products to governments, corporates, and financial institutions
  • We’re looking to give graduates early responsibility in key sales, trading and structuring roles
  • We provide our graduates with the practical hands-on development and support they need to succeed.

What is it?
Global Markets originates, trades and sells debt and equity instruments in primary and secondary markets. We offer these services to supranationals such as the EU, governments, large corporates, financial institutions and other organisations who need continuous coverage of global markets and access to world-class financial solutions.

Our European Global Markets operation employs over 350 people. These fall into three main areas:

Fixed Income – this combines the experience and expertise of Nomura’s origination, syndicate, trading, sales and research capabilities in all the markets we operate in. Our London office works seamlessly with Hong Kong, Tokyo and New York to provide our clients with 24-hour access to these global markets.

Often working alongside other investment banks, our European trading teams have a particular expertise in trading government bonds, Eurobonds, credit products, futures, foreign exchange and repos. Plus, our Debt Capital Markets team, whose activities cover New Issues senior and subordinated bonds, liability solutions and optimisation, as well as structured and securitisation origination, ranks alongside all the major players in the industry.

Equities - we provide a range of equity products, covering both mature and emerging markets, for corporate and institutional clients globally. We have equity sales hubs in all of Europe’s largest financial centres and our London office offers a leading European small and mid-cap sales team, with particular sector focus on healthcare and biotechnology.

Equity Derivatives – thanks to our heritage we have a dominant presence in Japanese equity derivatives, both domestically and globally and are recognised as a major player in the equity derivative markets in Asia, Europe and the US. Nomura has built up its Equity Derivatives business in London and now employs over 50 specialists, with continued plans to grow.

What we’re looking for
We’re looking to recruit graduates with a 2:1 or equivalent to help us fulfil our ambitious plans to grow our Global Markets division. In particular, we need people in the following areas:

  • Sales – to succeed you’ll need a natural interest in the markets and have a good understanding of how they work. Plus, being able to get along with people will be crucial as you’ll be advising clients on their strategy and briefing them on the markets they operate in.
  • Trading – you’ll need to combine a sharp analytical mind with an in-depth technical understanding of Global Markets. What’s more, it’s fast paced and working under pressure comes with the job. Working as a trader is not for the faint of heart.
  • Structuring – detailed technical knowledge of how the markets work is essential for this role, but you’ll also need a flair for developing creative solutions to meet our clients’ needs.

What you can expect
As a graduate, you’ll receive all the dedicated training and support you need to develop your career and personal and professional skills. Our intensive development programme provides an excellent understanding of capital market instruments and how they’re used.

  • You’ll learn hands-on skills such as valuation, pricing and structuring with an emphasis on practical application to ensure you’re contributing to our business as soon as possible. We’ll also develop your client and communication skills to help you thrive in a fast moving market environment. During your development you’ll be supported both formally and informally by a buddy, a mentor and a management team that wants you to succeed at Nomura.

What’s more, you’ll find our generous salary and benefits package competitive with other organisations.
