Training programs

Nomura mini landscape

Our graduates benefit from business overview presentations, structured classroom seminars and internal training delivered by business representatives, whichever program they join.

All employees on our global markets and investment banking programs receive additional FSA training, technical coaching, training on Nomura-specific software and attend team-building events with global graduate colleagues.

If you choose to join our investment banking division - as either an Analyst or Associate - you will also learn about a variety of business topics, via a series of weekly sessions delivered by senior bankers, that form part of our continuing education program. You will also attend soft skills training designed to hone your natural presenting, negotiating and relationship building abilities to name but a few.

“We aim to have a training which is interactive, hands-on and in a set-up that simulates the real on-the-job experience.”

Those on the corporate infrastructure finance program will have the opportunity to study for CIMA or ACCA, while those in operations will be able to study for the IAQ. Graduates on the technology program benefit from a wide range of software, development and technical training.

Whatever division you join, you will also benefit from ongoing performance feedback. You'll have access to division-specific educational sessions specifically designed to aid your professional development. At Nomura, our managers spend time focusing on your career development. They will dedicate considerable amounts of time to coaching and mentoring you, helping you realize your full potential.

Building Nomura’s pipeline of future leaders

In July 2011, more than 400 new graduate programme hires representing over seven of our offices in EMEA, APAC and the US regions from across the Investment Banking, Fixed Income and Equities divisions came to London to participate in the third annual Global Training Programme.

The programmes, which last 4-6 weeks, builds Nomura’s pipeline of future leaders and functional experts through the successful assimilation, development and retention of early tenured professionals. Participants are exposed to senior leadership through integrated business speakers, success panels and networking events. The programmes also emphasize Nomura’s commitment to giving back to the community through organised philanthropic activities in conjunction with our Community Affairs efforts here in London.

Though initial training programmes are a standard in the industry, the global nature of this programme is a key differentiator for Nomura and for the graduates beginning their career.

When asked about their experience so far, Preshith Kunta, FID Research from the US office commented: “The global markets programme is essentially an initiation into the global, diverse and dynamic firm that Nomura is. While the value of the programme might be intangible, its impact on this group is very real.”

Lan Cheng from the Tokyo office spoke of the value of meeting her global peers: “I am really impressed by all the colleagues I have met from other international offices. It's truly amazing to meet with such a diverse group of talented people. It’s been very pleasant learning and getting to know all of them.”

Mark Lin, an IBD associate from Hong Kong said: "The training program gave me a chance to take the practical skills I learned at business school to the next level. In addition, through interactions with other colleagues from around the world outside the classroom, I have built a global perspective of the firm.  Without a doubt, the program has laid a solid foundation for my future career at Nomura."
