Mr LEE Kuan Yew
Minister Mentor of Singapore
Mr Lee Kuan Yew graduated with First Class Honours (with a star for distinction in the final examinations) in Law at Cambridge in 1949. Since graduation, Mr Lee was the Legal Adviser to several trade unions. In 1954, he helped found the People¡¦s Action Party (PAP) and also became the Secretary-General until 1992. Mr Lee contested and won the general election for the Tanjong Pagar Constituency and had remained the representative since 1955. In 1959, PAP won the general election and Mr Lee became the Prime Minister. Mr Lee resigned as Prime Minister in 1990 and appointed Senior Minister by Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong in 1991, 1997, 2001.

Mr Yoshifumi Nishikawa is the President and Director of Japan Post Holdings. Mr Nishikawa graduated from the School of Law at Osaka University and he started his career at Sumitomo Bank in 1961 and in 2001, he became the President of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. Prior to joining Japan Post Holdings, Mr Nishikawa was the Senior Advisor and President (concurrent) for Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation.

Mr Adi Godrej is the chairman of Godrej Group. More than a century ago, the Godrej's were into manufacturing locks and vegetable-based soaps. The Godrej products were among the first indigenously manufactured products to displace entrenched foreign brands.
Mr Godrej left India at the age of 17 to enroll at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received his degree in management. Upon his return to India, Adi Godrej joined the family business. He modernized and systematized management structures and implemented process improvements. Mr Godrej restructured company's policies to meet the challenges of globalisation. In the early 2000s, the Group completed a 10-year restructuring process through which each business became a stand-alone company with a CEO/COO from outside the Godrej family.
Under Adi Godrej's leadership, the group is also involved in philanthropic activities. Godrej is major supporter of the World Wildlife Fund in India, it has developed a green business campus in the Vikhroli township of Mumbai, which includes a 150-acre mangrove forest and a school for the children of company employees.

Mr Faraj is responsible for Nomura's investment banking business in the Middle East. He is based in Bahrain and Riyadh and is focusing primarily on private equity and corporate finance advisory for sovereign funds and private companies. Before moving to the Middle East in 2006, he was Nomura's global strategist for six years, heading the team responsible for global asset allocation and top-down strategy.
He has been responsible for formulating investment recommendations for institutional and private clients, as well as Nomura¡¦s proprietary businesses. Before Nomura, he worked as a sovereign analyst at Fitch. He has extensive experience within the global asset management industry and has a large network of high-level private and institutional investors, most notably in Switzerland, Asia and the Middle East. Mr Faraj is a frequent speaker in the international media.

Dr Chi Hung KWAN

Mr Chi Hung Kwan received his undergraduate education at the Chinese University in Hong Kong in 1979 and later completed his Master and Ph.D. degrees in Economics at the University of Tokyo in 1984 and 1996 respectively.
Mr Kwan started his career as the Economist for the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. In 1987, Mr Kwan joined Nomura Research Institute as Senior Economist. From 2001 to 2004, Mr Kwan was the Senior Fellow for the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry and has been Senior Fellow for Nomura Institute of Capital Markets Research since 2004.
Mr Kwan is an expert on China¡¦s economic reform and regional integration in Asia and has published numerous books and papers in English and Japanese on the topics. 
Mr Chisato HAGANUMA

Mr Chisato Haganuma joined Nomura in 1982, and currently holds the position as Chief Strategist of the Financial & Economic Research Center in Tokyo. On entering the firm he was first employed as an account sales executive, but in 1985 he took a sabbatical and enrolled at the London School of Economics (UK) where he studied for two years. On completion of his course, Mr. Haganuma returned to Nomura Securities and became an equity analyst in the Investment Information and Service Department in July 1987. After the following six years in the division, Mr. Haganuma transferred to the Investment Research Department of the Nomura Research Institute in Tokyo as a Strategist in 1993. In 2004, he became a managing director of Investment Strategy Department of Nomura Securities. He has been in the current position since April 2007.
Mr. Haganuma graduated from the University of Tokyo with a Bachelor¡¦s degree majoring in International Relations in 1982, and holds a Master of Science degree in Economics from the London School of Economics.

An environmental activist, and chairman of the environmental group Clear The Air.
The passion for the environment has come to Christian after living many years in Hong-Kong. Born in France, he holds a Master's Degree in international trade (INALCO-CPEI, Paris), and a Bachelor's degree in Chinese studies.
Christian has been employed in the Hong-Kong logistics industry, has opened a consulting company, and also devotes time teaching language and communication to business people in corporations and in local universities. Christian has been immediately enthusiastic about Motorwave clean technologies and the challenges posed by informing the public about alternate
sources of clean energies now available on the market, in order to make informed choices for today and tomorrow.
He believes that instead of relying on polluting, increasingly expensive, and now limited carbon fuel supplies, government should now offer incentives for clean renewable energies and open the energy market to get the public use new power sources.

Mr Barrow joined Nomura in June 2007 as Head of Sales for Synthetic Prime Brokerage. He started his career as a lawyer practising in the commercial and banking sector for six years before joining Bankers Trust in 1998 as part of the Securities and Derivatives Legal team, specialising in Equity Financing and Emerging Market Derivatives. After the acquisition of Bankers by Deutsche Bank AG, Mr Barrow spent five years at Deutsche, working initially as a lawyer in Equity Finance / Prime Brokerage and then latterly then in Stock Lending, where he was responsible for marketing to institutional clients in EMEA. Prior to joining Nomura, Chris spent three years at HSBC as Head of Sales and Marketing for Equity Finance. Mr Barrow is a qualified UK lawyer and holds a BSc honours degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of Southampton.

Mr Daisaku Ueno¡¦s career as an Economist began at the Nomura Research Institute in the Economic and Investment Departments and he also spent 18 months at Nomura Securities in the Fixed Income Department. In1993 he was the Assistant Vice President and Economist for the Nomura Research Institute in New York. Two years later he was Vice President and economist for the Washington D.C. office. In 1996 he was assigned as Senior Research Officer to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication in the Third Dept. of Management and Economics for two years.
From 1998 to 2000 he went from Economist to Senior Economist and Head of International Financial Research Unit.
Mr Ueno has a B.A. in Economics from Tokyo Metropolitan University and is a Chartered Member of the Security Analysts Association of Japan.

David has been coming from HannStar Display, a leading TFT LCD producer, where he was most recently a key account manager responsible for both notebook and LCD monitor accounts. Prior to two years in HannStar¡¦s sales and marketing department, Mr Hsieh served for a total of five years as production planner and production engineer at HannStar¡¦s TFT LCD module line and Hitachi Kaohsiung¡¦s STN LCD module line. In the words of Canada¡¦s national newspaper, The Globe and Mail, written in 2007, Mrs Evelyn Browning-Garriss is a ¡§weather whisperer¡¨ whose clients are ¡§laughing their way to the bank.¡¨ Named by the Wall Street Journal as one of the ¡§Winners of 1996,¡¨ she has spent over thirty years as a business consultant, editor and author explaining the impact of changing climate on economic and social trends. Editor of the Browning Newsletter for the past twenty years, Mrs Garriss has authored or co-authored five books on the changing climate¡¦s impact on water supplies, agriculture, business and terrorism. She has taught professional seminars in the United States and Canada for the 5th Army Office of Civil Emergency Preparedness, the Ontario Natural Gas Association, the Mid-Continental Area Power Pool, the Independent Power Producers of Alberta, the Pacific Power Association of Pacific island utilities, the Carilec organization of Latin American electrical utilities, the Alberta Irrigation Projects Association, the American Feed Industry Association, the Nutrition Institute, the American Hay Association, the Texas and Southwestern Cattlemen's Association, Regional Investment Brokers, Wealth Management, the Contrarian Forum, and the Atlanta Investment Conference. Dr Gerald L. CURTIS

Dr Gerald L. Curtis is Burgess Professor of Political Science at Columbia University and concurrently Visiting Professor at Waseda University and Senior Research Fellow at the International Institute for Economic Studies and the Tokyo Foundation. He is the former Director of Columbia¡¦s Weatherhead East Asian Institute. Professor Curtis is the author of The Logic of Japanese Politics and numerous other books and articles written in both English and Japanese and translated into Chinese, Korean, Thai and other languages. He currently divides his time between Columbia University and Tokyo where he is active as a columnist, speaker and writer, and consultant. Professor Curtis has held appointments at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House, London; the College de France, Paris; the Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore; and in Tokyo at Keio and Tokyo University, the Research Institute for Economy, Trade and Industry, the Graduate Research Institute for Policy Studies, and the International Institute of Economic Studies. He is the recipient of numerous prizes and honors including the Chunichi Shimbun Special Achievement Award and the Masayoshi Ohira Memorial Prize. In 2001 he was awarded the distinguished Japan Foundation Award in a ceremony held in the presence of the Crown Prince and Princess and followed by an audience with the Emperor. In 2004 Professor Curtis was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star by the Emperor of Japan, one of the highest honors bestowed by the Japanese government. Professor Curtis is a member of the Trilateral Commission, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the board of directors of the US-Japan Foundation. He is a Senior Director at Stonebridge International and advisor and consultant to numerous Japanese and international corporations. Professor Curtis received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1969 and he has been on the Columbia University faculty since 1968.

Since 2007 Mr Niihara has held the position of Director for the Corporate System Division at the Ministry of Economy, International Trade and Industry (METI). He has had various responsibilities there since 1984 in the positions of Director for Paper and Cultural related industry Division (2004-2006) and Director for Information industry and Economy Division (2002-2004).
In addition, Mr Niihara currently holds several additional positions such as Visiting Professor at the Waseda Law School and a Research Affiliate (Organizational Economics) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT), Sloan School of Management. He was also a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University , Department of Economics , (2006-2007). Mr Hugh YOUNG

Hugh Young is managing director of Aberdeen Asset Management Asia Limited, the Aberdeen Group¡¦s regional HQ, group head of equities as well as a member of the executive committee responsible for the Aberdeen Group¡¦s day-to-day running.
He co-founded Singapore-based Aberdeen Asia in 1992, having been recruited in 1985 to manage Asian equities from London. Since then he has built the company into one of the largest managers of such assets globally. Singapore employs over 100 staff, while there are 25 investment managers stationed across the region, with research/investment offices also in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand, over which Hugh is in overall charge.
Aberdeen¡¦s regional funds have won many awards for performance over the years, including open endedand closed-end funds, athough today Aberdeen Asia mainly manages institutional funds. Hugh is a regularcommentator for the financial media. His early career included spells at Fidelity International and MGM Assurance.
Hugh graduated with a BA (Hons) in politics from Exeter University. 
Mr Ian HARWOOD

Mr Ian Harwood, aged 55, has witnessed at first hand seismic changes in the global economy and financial markets during the thirty years he has worked as an economist in the financial services industry.
Educated at Bristol and Cambridge universities, Mr Harwood was chief economist of SG Warburg from 1986 to 1994 and chief economist of Dresdner Kleinwort from 1994 to early 2008.
Mr Harwood has been consistently highly-rated by institutional investors world-wide. In the 2007 Extel survey, for instance, Ian was voted #1 in the Global Economics category, and the Dresdner Kleinwort economics and strategy team took first place. The 2007 Pan-European Institutional Investor survey placed Ian and his team #1 for Economics.
Mr Harwood is currently a freelance economist specialising in global economic analysis.

Mr Juichi Wako is currently the Senior Equity Strategist for Nomura Securities Investment Research, specializing in Japanese equity market from the standpoint of asset allocation.
After graduating from the Faculty of Economics at Tokyo University in 1989, he started his career in Nomura Research Institute at the Economic Research Department watching the Bank of Japan. A year later he was an Economist for the Financial Research Section looking after interest rate forecast of Japan for fixed-income business.
By 1992, he was an Economist in charge of fiscal and monetary policy analysis and forecast for Japan. Two years later, he was the Senior Economist for European research giving his Japanese economy experience to the European businesses. He then moved on to be Economist/Equity Strategist in 1998 in charge of analysis and forecast of the investment environment including overall macro-economy, forex and interest rates. Then in 2000, he moved on to be the Senior Japanese Equity Strategist for 4 years before taking on the current role.

Mr Keisuke Moriyama joined Nomura in 2005 in the Equity Research Department as Senior Securities Analyst. His career began with a B.A. in Economics from Keio University in 1990. Upon graduation, Mr Moriyama joined Sumitomo Bank in the Economics Department. Mr Moriyama completed his MBA at ESSEC in France before moving onto the Japan Research Institute in 1997. Two years later he went back to Sumitomo in the Planning Department where he was in the Office to Special Staff to the Chairman of Japanese Bankers Association.
From 2001 he was appointed the Secretariat of the Council of Regulatory Reform in the Cabinet Office for the Government of Japan and then three years later was in the Planning Department, for the Sumitomo Mitsui Card Co. before joining Nomura. 
Dr Laurence MEYER

Dr Laurence H. Meyer is a former member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and currently vice chairman of Macroeconomic Advisers and a distinguished scholar at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington D.C.
While serving as a Fed governor from June 1996 through January 2002, Dr Meyer became widely known as an influential member of the Federal Open Market Committee and built a reputation for independent thinking and straight talk about monetary policy. He has been widely acclaimed for his ability to bring clarity to the chaos of economic data and to demystify the art and science of monetary policymaking.
Dr Meyer was born on March 8, 1944 in the Bronx, New York. He received a B.A. (magna cum laude) from Yale University in 1965 and a Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1970.
Before becoming a member of the Fed Board, Meyer was president of Laurence H. Meyer and Associates, a St. Louis-based economic consulting firm specializing in macroeconomic forecasting and policy analysis, and became recognized as one of the nation¡¦s leading economic forecasters. The firm was renamed Macroeconomic Advisers when Dr Meyer left to join the Federal Reserve Board. He was honored by Business Week in 1986 as the top forecaster of the year on its forecast panel and similarly honored in 1993 and 1996 with the prestigious Annual Forecast Award, presented to the most accurate forecaster on the panel for Blue Chip Economic Indicators. He was also a professor of economics and a former chairman of the economics department at Washington University, where he taught for 27 years before joining the Federal Reserve Board.

An enthusiastic environmentalist, Lisa is the Founder and Executive Director of Ecovision Asia, a company committed to raising public awareness about climate change, sustainability, waste reduction and recycling, ocean conservation and energy efficiency through eco event management, education, and consulting.
The company was conceived in 2001 and has produced a number of high profile annual community environmental events including Earth Matters, an environmental festival and The Hong Kong Cleanup Challenge which has three parts; The Coastal Cleanup Challenge, The Corporate Cleanup Challenge and The School Cleanup Challenge.
Prior to founding Ecovision, Lisa co-founded ¡¥Time to Recycle¡¦ which launched Hong Kong¡¦s first ever street level sponsored recycling project.
She was then invited by the Civic Exchange to help drive a waste management program which involved a recycling audit for one of Hong Kong¡¦s leading property developers. Lisa helped formulate the survey and waste audit and write the report, which has since been published.
Lisa is frequently active in beach cleanups, tree planting and various community environmental inititives. She sits on the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Sustainable Development Committee, Clear The Air¡¦s executive committee and is a member of the HK Sustainable Development Forum. As an ardent outdoor enthusiast she successfully completed the 100km Maclehose Trail in 1999. She loves hiking, sailing, skiing.

Ms. Nami Matsuko joined Nomura Research Institute, Ltd. as a researcher in 1991 and currently provides corporate advisory services as an investment banker at Nomura Securities Co., Ltd. She provides corporate advisory services, as an investment banker, for Japanese listed companies mainly on cross border merger and acquisition structuring, corporate defense strategies, corporate governance and investor relations in special situations.
Ms. Matsuko has been a member of the Corporate Value Study Group (established to propose standards for takeover defense measures in Japan) organized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) since 2004, and of the Mergers and Acquisitions Study Group organized by the Cabinet Office since 2004. She also actively talks with government representatives and related parties regarding capital raising structures for foreign issuers in Japan in order to make contribution to policy making to facilitate fair M&A and finance activities in Japan and in a cross-border environment.
Ms. Matsuko has appeared in numerous international seminars and symposiums, including as a panelist at the session on ¡§Japan's new legal framework for Corporate Governance¡¨ at the ¡§Corporate Governance in the New Japan ¡V Revisited¡¨ conference (Japan Society, San Francisco, June 2006), for a workshop at the International Corporate Governance Network, 11th Annual Conference held in London (July 2005), and for the ¡§Shareholder Activism¡¨ session at the International Bar Association conference (Singapore, October 2007).

Mr Nick McDonald as Head of Asian equities is responsible for Sales, Sales Trading and distribution of Instinets' proprietary trading systems in Asia. Mr McDonald has 20 years experience in the financial industry serving both the Institutional side and the Broker side of the business. His career started as an execution trader at Robert Fleming Investment management in 1987 moving on in 1993 to WI Carr where he established the Asian sales trading team that was ranked No. 1 in the 1995 Greenwich survey. Mr McDonald joined Instinet London in 1996 setting up their Asian presence in UK and Europe before relocating to Japan in 2003. In January 2008 he relocated to Singapore as Managing Director for Instinets¡¦ most recent branch office in Asia which also recently obtained its membership to SGX.

Dr. Seiichiro Iwasawa joined Nomura Research in 1987 after graduating from Waseda University with a B.A. in Political Economics.
After studying abroad at Harvard University where he received a Ph.D. in Behavioral Economincs, Dr. Iwasawa returned to Japan and joined the Financial & Economic Research Center of Nomura Securities Co., Ltd. from April of 2004 where he currently works.
Dr. Iwasawa currently focuses on Japanese equity investment strategy. He performs economic, psychological and chart-based analysis and also aims to use intuition and experience to predict developments on the Japanese stock market. Mr Takahide Kiuchi has worked for Nomura for a number of years in various locations around the world. After graduating from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan with a B.A. in Economics, he joined Nomura in 1987 as the Economist of the Japanese Economy in the Economic Research Department and later in the Fixed Income Research Department. In 1990, he moved to Germany and become the Economist of the European Economy for Nomura Frankfurt office.
Four years later in 1994, he returned to Tokyo to be the Economist of the U.S. Economy which lasted for two years, from where he became Senior Economist of the U.S. Economy in the New York office until 2002. He then relocated to Tokyo as the Head of the Japanese Economic Research Unit and Senior analyst.
In 2007, Mr Kiuchi was promoted to Chief Economist, Managing Director and his areas of Specialty include research and projections on the Japanese economy and financial markets and analyzes trends in these areas from a global perspective.

Mr Takashi Moriwaki joined Nomura Securities in 1995 after graduating from the University of Tokyo (B.A. in Economics). Dr Takatoshi ITO

Dr Takatoshi Ito, Professor at Graduate School of Economics and Graduate School of Public Policy, University of Tokyo, has taught extensively both in the United States and Japan in the past after finishing Ph.D. in economics at Harvard University in 1979. Dr Ito taught at University of Minnesota as Assistant and tenured Associate Professor (1979-88), as Associate and full Professor at Hitotsubashi University (1988-1999, and 2001-2002), and as Visiting professor at Harvard University (1992-94). He served as President of the Japanese Economic Association (2004).
As an unusual move for a Japanese academic, Dr Ito was appointed in the official sector, as Senior Advisor in the Research Department, IMF (1994-97) and as Deputy Vice Minister for International Affaires at Ministry of Finance, Japan (1999-2001). He is also a member of the Prime Minister¡¦s Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy (2006- ).
Dr Ito is an author of many books including The Japanese Economy (MIT Press, 1992), The Political Economy of the Japanese Monetary Policy and Financial Policy and Central Banking in Japan (both with T. Cargill and M. Hutchison, MIT Press, respectively 1997 and 2000), An Independent and Accountable IMF (with J. De Gregorio, B. Eichengreen, and C. Wyplosz, 1999), and many academic articles on international finance and the Japanese economy in top journals. His research interest includes capital flows and currency crises, microstructures of the foreign exchange rates, and inflation targeting. He has several books written in Japanese on these topics. He contributes frequently to Financial Times, Nihon Keizai Shinbun, and Toyo Keizai Weekly.

Before relocating to Hong Kong as Chief Economist, Mr Kinoshita held the same position in Nomura Singapore. Previously, he has had responsibilities including Senior Economist, Senior Vice-President, Head of Economic Research Division as well as Head of the Asian Economic Research Division. He worked in the Washington D.C office for several years and was also a consultant in the Financial Sector Development division of the World Bank.
He holds an M.A. in Economics from Northwestern University and a B.A. in Economics from Kyoto University. He is also a Certified Member of the Securities Analysts Association of Japan.
