  • Does Nomura provide a structured training program at the beginning and during the internship?

The first week of the internship program consists of new hire orientation, followed by technical training focused on preparing interns to join the desk. This training will set you up for success by building your knowledge foundation, your understanding of key concepts, and provide you with the tools to maximize your internship experience. We aim to provide you with an overview of the financial services industry, the division you are joining, our organization, as well as professional development opportunities.

Throughout the summer, you will receive on-the-job training, be included in presentations by your business division, and learn about the different desks. You will work closely with professionals at all levels across the firm, and participate in social, educational, and networking events throughout the summer.

  • Do the internship programs allow rotations across different divisions?

No, we do not offer rotational internship programs across divisions. Our internships are designed to provide you with meaningful work experience, to maximize your understanding of what a career in the business would entail and enable you to determine if this is a career path you wish to pursue on a full time basis.

For clarification, a division is defined as a business such as Investment Banking, Global Markets, Technology and our Corporate Functions. Therefore, unless otherwise specified, your internship will be a direct-to-desk placement within a particular business.

  • All investment banks seem to offer similar career paths and training. What makes Nomura different?

Nomura’s flat organizational structure offers high personal visibility, exposure to senior management, and the platform for assuming significant responsibility early in your career. Smaller teams ensure ample exposure and can fast track your professional growth. As you collaborate with teams across your business and across the firm, you will develop a wide range of skills. Teamwork and our focus on continuous learning are integral to our success; enabling us to deliver in a fast-paced, competitive, and high-energy work environment.

SOAR is Nomura’s Analyst Development Program and represents our commitment to develop our junior talent into future leaders of the firm. SOAR focuses on four key areas of continuous learning, including Business Acumen, Role-Based Technical Skills, Digital/Business Skills, and Leadership Skills.

Lastly, we are incredibly proud of our people, and our culture, and we consider it a key differentiator for Nomura. Our people and our culture underpin who we are, create a sense of belonging, and enable us to create an inclusive work environment. We are an organization where all voices matter and everyone feels empowered to offer different perspectives, ideas and solutions.

  • What kind of working hours can I expect as an intern?

We endeavor to provide Summer Analysts with a similar experience as that of a first-year Analyst. While work hours will vary, you will be expected to work 40 hours each work week. We operate in a fast-paced, and high energy work environment that is renowned for a quick turnaround. Therefore, depending on the division (Investment Banking, Global Markets Technolgoy and Corporate Functions) and team you join, certain employees are assigned different work hours by their manager to meet the requirements of the job and needs of our clients.

  • Is the internship paid?

Almost all of our internship programs are paid. Our compensation is competitive and is reviewed annually to ensure it remains competitive.

The only exception is in London where we two unpaid work experience Spring Programs – the Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) Explore Nomura and Women’s Immersion Program.

  • How many full-time offers are made after the Summer Intern Program?

Our Summer Intern Program is a key pipeline for us as we rely predominately on Intern conversion to fill our full-time programs. The number of Interns offered a full-time role varies across location and division and will depend on the performance of individual Interns and business requirements.

Full-time Analyst Programs will be advertised if we still have openings following the end of the Summer Intern Program. If none are advertised, please do take the opportunity to register your interest to receive an automated notification if a role with your specifications is posted.

  • How many summer Interns are being recruited for the current year?

The number of Interns hired will vary depending on the division and region. We may hire more or fewer depending on the quality of the candidates, and business requirements .

  • Who is eligible to apply?

The eligibility criteria per program may differ across regions and divisions. Some programs may have very specific language requirements, whereas other might be more focused on the ‘year of study’ or your right to work (no visa).

During each recruitment cycle, we accept only one application globally per student. Therefore, we strongly advise that you carefully review the eligibility criteria stated in the job description to ensure you meet the requirements stated.

  • My degree is not finance related. Can I still apply?

Depending on the division and program, a finance related degree may be beneficial, but we welcome applicants from all academic disciplines. While we do look for strong business acumen, good numerical skills and a real interest in the finance industry, a finance related degree is not a requirement, and we consider applications from other degree disciplines. At Nomura, we value diversity of all backgrounds. We believe that diversity of thoughts, ideas, and experiences create unique and creative approaches to problem solving.

  • How many applications can I submit?

You can only apply for one program per recruitment cycle (academic year) across all divisions and regions. Therefore, we strongly advise that you carefully review the eligibility criteria in the job description to ensure you meet the requirements.

It is important that you decide which business division would best match your skillset and interests and what city/country is your preferred location.

Keep in mind that all regions (Americas, Asia excluding Japan and EMEA) recruit at slightly different times throughout the year and therefore despite all opportunities being in the same ‘recruitment cycle’, they will not be advertised simultaneously on the website. In addition, internships in a different region can be an attractive option, however we strongly advise that you do your research around the program entry requirements and keep in mind that each regional internship is a pipeline to that region’s graduate program. Therefore, prioritize your internship selection based on the region for which you are eligible and committed to relocate to, and start your full-time career.

Finally, if your application is unsuccessful, we will not accept a second application within the same recruitment season/year. Please also note that any attempt to bypass the single application allowance will result in all applications being marked as duplicates and will not be considered.

  • I have applied before. Can I reapply?

Yes, you can reapply in the next academic year (recruitment cycle). You will need to go through the selection and assessment process again.

However, if you already applied in the current recruitment cycle and your application was unsuccessful, we will not accept a second application within the same recruitment season/academic year. Any attempt to bypass the single application allowance per recruitment cycle will result in all applications being marked as duplicates and will not be considered.

  • Can I apply for a summer internship/graduate program in a different region?

Yes, you can apply for a program in another region (Americas, Asia excluding Japan and Europe). However, you can only apply for one program per academic year across all divisions and regions. If your application is unsuccessful, you are not eligible to reapply for another position during the same year.

  • How many event applications can I submit?

You can apply and register to as many events as you wish. Some events will require you to submit a CV. Please note that in-person events generally have a maximum number of attendees that we can accommodate. Therefore, upon registering your interest, your application will be screened and if successful, you will receive an email confirming your attendance (with the option to accept or decline the invitation).

  • Can I apply for an internship or graduate position via email or post?

We only accept online applications. Please visit us at https://www.nomura.com/careers/early-careers/apply-to-nomura/

  • How should I apply?

We only accept applications submitted via the Nomura Early Careers website while the opportunity is live. The application may vary slightly across regions and may include motivation questions; however, a cover letter is not required.

The motivation questions are the perfect opportunity to make a strong personalized impression. Do not use AI to formulate a generic response. Use this opportunity to:

    • Tailor your answers to be Nomura specific. Be original!
    • Illustrate that you have researched the business that you feel best corresponds to your skillset and interests, and your motivation for applying.
    • Check your grammar and spelling carefully before you submit your application.

View our available opportunities, with program-specific information available in the job description.

  • Will I be required to complete an online assessment?

The use of online assessment varies across regions and programs.

The Americas do not utilize online assessment as part of their application process, whereas AeJ and EMEA do utilize online assessment. You may be assessed under supervised conditions at a later stage in the process, however this may vary across programs and/or regions.

If online assessment is required as part of your application, you will receive an email inviting you to complete the required online assessment upon submitting your application. Our testing provider is AON and we ask that you complete the assessment(s) within 5 days of receiving the invitation. If you experience any technical problems with the online assessment, please log into your Application Portal and contact the relevant regional recruitment team.

If you require special considerations or assistance for online assessments, navigate to the Help Centre in the Application Portal and visit the Frequently Asked Questions section around online assessments and requesting extra time.

  • Can I use AI (artificial intelligence) during the application, assessment and/or interview process?

Please ensure that you complete the application, online assessments (if required) and interviews by yourself without any assistance. The use of AI to complete these assessments is prohibited. By submitting an application and clicking the online assessment link, you agree to participate in the assessment process honestly and fairly. Note that misrepresenting yourself or your skills could result in disqualification from the process. We reserve the right to request a retest under supervised conditions at a later stage in the process.

  • Will Nomura sponsor my visa / work authorization?

As an international student, you can apply to any of our programs. Should you receive an offer, but not have the legal right to work in the country your offer is located, Nomura will sponsor your visa depending on the program and/or regional requirements. However, the final decision sits with the relevant government office to grant the visa/right to work.

Please note that visa applications are a time-consuming process that are initiated months prior to the start of the program. The student is responsible to action and comply with any document or information requests to ensure the application is submitted in a timely manner. Otherwise, the visa may not be issued in time to ensure they can join at the start of the program. Failure to comply with the visa application process may result in the offer being withdrawn.

  • I have applied for a number of internships and would like to experience what it is like to work at different firms. If I accept an internship with another bank, does that reduce my chances of working at Nomura?

Yes, if you wish to work at Nomura after graduation, we encourage you to complete an internship with us. The overwhelming majority of our full-time programs are filled through our Intern class.

  • Interviews: How many rounds? Virtual or in-person? May I use AI?

When you are invited to an interview, we will let you know whether the interview will be in-person or virtual.

First round interviews tend to be with junior employees, whereas final round interviews will involve more senior members of the business. Interview questions may vary between divisions, with a combination of competency and technical questions, and/or a case study in the final rounds.

Please ensure that you complete the application, online assessments (if required) and interviews by yourself without any assistance. The use of AI to complete these assessments is prohibited. By submitting an application, and clicking the online assessment link, you agree to participate in the assessment process honestly and fairly. Note that misrepresenting yourself or your skills could result in disqualification from the process. The business reserves the right to request a retest under supervised conditions at a later stage in the process.

Furthermore, to protect the integrity and fairness of the recruitment process, we ask that you treat any insights you may have gained during the interview process as confidential, including interview questions and/or the case study material. Professional and ethical behavior is key in our industry and intentionally undermining the fairness and integrity of our recruitment process, whether by collaborating with a 3rd party, using Artificial Intelligence, and/or intentionally distributing confidential interview questions, will not be tolerated and could result in disqualification from the process.

  • How can I stand out during the interview process?

It is important for you to do your research on Nomura and the division for which you are interviewing. You should be able to talk about your CV / resume, academic history, leadership skills and work experience in detail. Ask questions and be honest in your responses - most importantly, be yourself!

  • What support is available if I need special accommodations during the recruitment process?

We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations throughout our recruitment process to ensure all candidates can fully participate. Once you have registered your profile or submitted your application, more information on how to contact your regional recruiting team is provided in your application portal. For reasonable adjustments required with regards to online assessments, please be sure to submit your application first, then follow the step-by-step instructions provided in the application portal on how to connect with your regional recruitment team.
