India Equity Strategy

Nomura’s India Equity strategy offers a focused approach to investing in India and aims to deliver high, risk adjusted returns by investing in 25-30 high conviction stocks.

The strategy is managed by Vipul Mehta, Head of Investment for Asia ex-Japan Equities at NAM Singapore. Vipul has been investing in India for over twenty years and in 2017 was named “Best Fund Manager” for Indian Equities by Citywire in Singapore as well as being ranked 1st in his investment category by Citywire Selector’s “Euro Stars” Guide to Europe’s Top Performing Fund Managers published in November 2017.

Investment Style

Bottom up:  focus on bottom-up country-oriented fundamental research, supported by corporate interaction and a large number of visits to Indian companies, their suppliers and clients.

Highly focused: investing in 25-35 high conviction stocks leverages off our stock picking expertise.

Research:  Stock selection is based on fundamental research, supported by a large number of visits to Indian companies (168 in 2016) including their suppliers and clients by our highly experienced portfolio management team.

Support: from NAM’s established Asia Pacific ex Japan research platforms in Singapore providing value added information from global & regional perspectives. Our team has managed portfolios in most financial market conditions.

The Team

Vipul Mehta, the lead portfolio manager, also heads up the wider investment team in Singapore,  a team of 23 Asia Pacific ex Japan managers and analysts. In the management of the India Fund he is backed up and assisted by Vipin Kapoor, a senior portfolio manager with over 17 years of industry experience. Both dedicated managers are of Indian origin, close to the culture and the market.
